The Rural Kindergarten Care and Teaching Process and Standards Research Project, implemented by? Professor Shen Jianzhou and his team of the Preschool Teachers College, Lanzhou City University,? is aimed at? promoting rural kindergartens’? teaching and preschool education quality by developing and spreading a practical “ one-day? care and teaching process and standards” in the villages of Gansu province.

As the nation’s preschool education develops, preschool education in Gansu province? has made substantive achievements. Since 2017, Gansu province has achieved a goal of full coverage of kindergartens in poor rural villages across the province, meeting the basic needs for rural children’s preschool education. The rapid increase of rural kindergartens has made the shortage of teachers in rural kindergartens and the lack of professionalism among them worse. In this context, The traditional “teaching over care” has become more prominent with kindergarten teachers putting more emphasis on teaching math, writing Chinese characters and reciting poems while? tending to ignore the development of children’s emotion, attitude and abilities and their basic care needs. Consequently, there have been lots of irregular care and teaching methods among rural kindergarten teachers. It is a common sense that the kindergarten should include two indispensable components of care and teaching thanks to the developmental features of preschool children. Therefore, care, teaching and their management have a direct effect on children’s comprehensive development, and it is central to correcting irregular care and teaching methods of rural kindergarten teachers with non-preschool education major for provision of quality preschool education for rural children in Gansu province. This project is aimed at promoting the care and teaching level of rural kindergarten teachers, and then care and teaching quality and preschool education level in Gansu rural kindergartens as a whole by developing and actively spreading a practical “ one-day? care and teaching process and standards” in the villages of Gansu province and? its corresponding “micro-class”? videos for improvement of care and teaching methods of rural kindergarten teachers.
