Foundations enjoy large amounts of social resources and funding, thus having a significant impact on non-profit organizations and projects and even leading the industry trends.
Since the promulgation of the Regulations of Foundation Management, the number and assets of foundations in China have increased substantially. Compared with the mature operation mode of foreign foundations, those in China are still in a very early stage of development. Not only does the number of foundations that provide grants remain small, but they also lack grant-making experience, ranging from frontline project management skills to strategic mapping ability. If not improving, the grant could not be effectively used to solve social problems and promote social development.
Promote key breakthroughs in strategic management and funding operation of foundations, improve their grant-making ability, further promoting social improvement jointly by project partners and executives, and making the third sector a real force to participate in and promote social development.
Over the past three years, CDR has initially established a series of services including integrated training, in-depth consultation, private board and foundation knowledge platform, through technique development and knowledge sharing strategies such as peer learning, continuous companionship, strategies for technological development such as methodology and open source of knowledge base. CDR has been recognized by domestic foundations as a national network, with the number of members growing from 12 in 2015 to 29, covering Beijing, the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta.
In the future, the Association will support CDR in increasing institutional capacity and team building, further expanding its services (from 30 to 40 members), improving service quality, helping members improve strategic management, grant-making operations and monitoring so as to increase the impact in the industry, establish an effective knowledge platform in China, and help a number of foundations achieve breakthroughs in its strategic management and operation, being the pioneers in promoting the solution to social problems.
