“The Improvement of Students’ Social Innovation Ability through Research-oriented Learning among Five Universities” project is officially launched in January 2019. The project is aimed at exploring a new type of university course in line with the AI era through jointly developing a research-oriented interdisciplinary course among five universities–which includes selecting students to implement a specific project within one year. The team hopes to enhance students’ skills in problem-solving, innovation and collaboration, in the long run tackling the issue of lacking curriculum reform and student engagement in the current higher education mechanism.
Being a pioneer, this project is based on the practical experience of two previous projects by XJTLU, including”Cross-Border Genius: XJTLU’s First Interdisciplinary Learning Project” and the core course “Environmental Sustainability”for the junior students from the concentration of Urban Planning and Design. The collaborating project theme is “Green Campus”, which spans arts, science and engineering, and is closely related to students’ campus life. Moreover, it helps to promote the development of sustainable ecological culture at campus. New approaches will be brought to this project, which provides students with two options for their research-sustainable urban and community or freshwater ecosystem. They could choose based on their research interests for further studying and practice.
