Educating people is the fundamental task of colleges and universities, in which teaching is key. However, currently, college teachers spend much of their time on scientific research, while teaching becomes much less important for them. Most teachers do not have the motivation to pay attention to teaching, and to teach to their best. Even the few teachers who care much about teaching still use teacher-centered teaching concepts and methods with less attention to students’ learning, thus resulting in very limited gains of college students.
Sponsored by the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University(XJTLU), the XJTLU National College Teaching Innovation Competition aims to improve the effectiveness of college students’ learning by promoting the innovation of college teachers in their teaching. With adherence to the concept of “Benefiting Students through Teaching Innovation ”, XJTLU organizes the annual National College Teaching Innovation Competition to dig and recognize the innovation of college teachers in their teaching, and attract social attention. It would hold a college teaching innovation forum and publish a collection of college teaching innovation cases to share and disseminate outstanding teaching innovation practice after the competition. Finally, through the holding of college teaching innovation training, an all-round, long-term support for teachers who are willing to improve their teaching would be provided. This series of projects also aims to create a higher education system that focuses on teaching and teaching-friendly atmosphere, and encourages and supports teaching innovation at the college level.
The Macao Tong Chai Charity Association provides funding for the teaching competition, teaching innovation seminars, college teacher training, etc.
